About the Job
The Trading Operations Manager is responsible for managing natural gas nominations, scheduling, and physical flow operations across pipeline and storage networks. The role pairs day-to-day nominations and imbalance management with Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system input, serves as a key backup for settlement functions, and partners closely with trading, marketing, and middle-office teams. Beyond daily operations, the Scheduler is expected to apply AI and automation tools to streamline routine, repetitive work - improving accuracy and freeing capacity for higher-value tasks. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and a proactive, ownership-driven approach to problem-solving in a fast-paced energy trading environment.
Responsibilities
Nominations & Scheduling
- Manage daily nominations and related activities across natural gas pipelines, consistently meeting pipeline cycle deadlines
- Ensure all gas purchased has an applicable delivery point and all gas sold has an applicable supply point
- Enter all pertinent nominations data accurately into the nominations systems maintained by applicable pipeline and point operators
- Report pipeline physical positions to the trading team on a timely basis
Pipeline & Imbalance Management
- Partner with gas marketing to minimize imbalances, communicating proactively as issues arise
- Balance pools and maintain working relationships with pipelines, customers, and their personnel
- Work with settlements on pipeline and storage invoice reconciliation
ETRM System & Operations
- Input operational information into the Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system
- Assist other departments with overall ETRM system input as needed
- Work with middle-office to ensure all physical gas flows are booked correctly into the system
Automation & Back-Office Support
- Apply AI and automation tools to streamline routine, repetitive tasks such as nominations data entry, reconciliation preparation, and routine reporting; improve accuracy and free capacity for higher-value work
- As a key user, partner with relevant teams to develop ETRM capabilities and automate the pipeline nominations process
- Monitor key pipeline electronic bulletin boards (EBBs) for maintenance and critical notices; analyze and report key impacts to the team
- Serve as a key backup for settlement and other back-office functions, including but not limited to invoice validation, volume reconciliation, and statement review, to insure continuity during absences and peak periods
- Additional projects, tasks, and duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 5+ years of experience scheduling natural gas along Gulf Coast pipelines
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal), with the ability to engage effectively with individuals and teams across different disciplines and regions
- Team player with the ability to work well in a small-team environment
- Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, planning, and analytical skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize time-sensitive work under firm deadlines
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to use AI and automation tools to simplify or automate routine tasks (e.g., AI assistants, scripting, or workflow automation)
- Proficiency in work-related software applications, including the Microsoft Office suite (with strong Excel skills)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Horizon/Allegro or a comparable ETRM platform
- Experience or knowledge of basic LNG operations
- Experience with Texas Intrastate pipeline scheduling, including DART
- Basic understanding of natural gas market fundamentals (supply/demand balances, regional basis, weather sensitivity, and storage dynamics)
- Familiarity with transport and storage economics and asset optimization
- Basic understanding of risk-management and hedging concepts (position management, mark-to-market, and P&L drivers)
- Awareness of NAESB standards and relevant FERC regulations governing physical gas transactions
- Willingness to learn and back up other key back-office positions, and to develop broader commercial competencies over time
