Job Summary
The Finance Department is seeking an experienced Trade Finance Manager –Metals with a minimum of seven years’ experience in Metals and/or Steel and strong technical expertise. This individual will be responsible for overseeing, structuring, and optimising the financing of the Company’s physical trade flows across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
The role will report to the Senior Trade Finance & Treasury Manager and will form part of the wider Group Finance – Trade Finance function headquartered in New York.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- In conjunction with the Senior Trade Finance & Treasury Manager, build and maintain relationships with the Group’s growing portfolio of financing banks in the UK, Europe and the MENA region.
- Responsible for managing and structuring the financing of the Group’s Base Metals and Steel trade flows. This includes:
- -Presentation, allocation and day-to-day handling of transactions with financing banks (bilateral and/ or borrowing base facilities).*
- -Implementation of structured finance solutions (inventory, prepayments, receivables discounting) in support of the business.*
- -Coordination with the Operations team on repurchase agreement facilities.*
- Work closely with the trading team, as well as the Operations team, to coordinate and ensure good execution of existing and new transactions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
- Assess physical transactions for risk and compatibility with the relevant financing facility; work closely with the Credit team to ensure that transactions always take place within the Group’s credit risk appetite.
- Take responsibility, in conjunction with the Senior Trade Finance & Treasury Manager, for the personal and professional development of Trade Finance Analysts.
- Responsible for ensuring that all relevant Trade Finance and Treasury information is populated in the Trade Finance, Treasury and Credit systems and, where appropriate, the ETRM systems.
- Contribute, where required, to M&A and physical asset transactions.
- Assist in the development, improvement and documentation of Trade Finance policies and procedures, as needed.
Requirements: education, competencies & skills
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Finance discipline.
- At least 7 years of experience in an operational Trade Finance and/or Structured Commodity Finance funding environment, with an emphasis on the management of physical transactions and associated documentation.
- Experience in the commodity sector, business acumen and specialised knowledge in Trade Finance and Structured Commodity Finance for physical flows of metals and/or steel.
- Strong operational understanding of the Trade Finance function and how it supports a commodity trading platform.
- General knowledge of Incoterms, physical trading operations, inventory management and shipping.
- Excellent communication and client service skills; demonstrated ability and desire to collaborate internally and externally in providing top-tier service and delivering results.
- Experience with Base Metals repurchase agreement financing is beneficial.
- Exposure to project management (desirable).
- Ability to work under pressure, with a proactive attitude and analytical approach to work, and the capability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Must be technically proficient and adept with Trade Finance, Credit, Treasury and financial reporting systems.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills and/or coding skills.
- Good attention to detail and highly organised.
- Team player who can successfully build strong working relationships both upwards and downwards.
