Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Middle Officer to support the daily operations of our oil trading business. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full trade lifecycle from deal capture through settlement, ensuring operational accuracy, risk control, and seamless coordination between Front Office, Back Office, Finance, Credit, Compliance, and external counterparties.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the end-to-end operational lifecycle of physical and/or paper oil trades.
Validate trade details and ensure timely and accurate deal capture in the trading system.
Monitor trade execution, nominations, shipments, and delivery schedules.
Calculate and monitor daily P&L, exposures, mark-to-market (MTM), and trading positions.
Prepare and reconcile pricing, freight, storage, blending, and demurrage calculations.
Monitor contractual obligations, pricing periods, and settlement deadlines.
Coordinate closely with Traders, Operations, Finance, Credit, Compliance, and external counterparties to ensure smooth trade execution.
Review trade confirmations and resolve any discrepancies.
Support invoice validation and settlement processes with the Back Office and Finance teams.
Prepare daily and monthly management reports on trading activities and exposures.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
Identify operational risks and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and control.
Assist in system testing, process automation initiatives, and implementation of new trading workflows.
Support audits by providing documentation and operational reports.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in Middle Office within the oil, energy, or commodity trading industry.
Strong understanding of the physical oil trade lifecycle and commodity trading operations.
Experience with exposure management, P&L reporting, MTM calculations, and position reconciliation.
Knowledge of Incoterms, pricing mechanisms, shipping documentation, and commodity contracts.
Experience working with ETRM/CTRM systems (e.g., Endur, Aspect, Allegro, RightAngle, TriplePoint, or similar).
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
Professional proficiency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in marine fuels, crude oil, refined products, or commodity trading.
Knowledge of risk management principles and hedge reconciliation.
Experience in process improvement and operational automation projects.
Familiarity with sanctions compliance and trade finance documentation.
