KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Own the general ledger and the completeness and accuracy of accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, cost of sales, revenue, accruals, foreign exchange and other trading-related balances.
- Lead monthly, quarterly and annual close processes and prepare timely management accounts and statutory financial statements in accordance with applicable Singapore and group reporting requirements.
- Establish accounting policies and treatments for physical commodity trades, inventory, derivatives, hedging instruments, revenue recognition, foreign currency transactions and non-standard trade structures.
- Manage external audits, statutory filings, corporate income tax, GST and other applicable reporting obligations; maintain complete reconciliations and audit-ready supporting schedules.
- Planning, Analysis and Risk Reporting
- Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts and scenario analysis; provide clear variance explanations and actionable insights to management and trading teams.
- Develop profitability analysis by trade, commodity, counterparty and trading desk, including finance costs, logistics costs and other material cost drivers.
- Work with traders to understand physical and paper positions, support mark-to-market reporting and ensure appropriate accounting for derivatives and hedging activities.
- Monitor and report counterparty credit exposure against approved limits in coordination with relevant control functions; escalate limit breaches or data inconsistencies promptly.
- Treasury and Working Capital
- Oversee cash-flow forecasting, daily liquidity, bank accounts, payment execution and banking relationships across currencies and legal entities where applicable.
- Manage trade finance facilities, including letters of credit, trust receipts and other approved working-capital arrangements; monitor utilisation, collateral, covenants, maturities and financing costs.
- Maintain robust bank-mandate, payment-approval, beneficiary-master and segregation-of-duties controls; independently verify changes to settlement instructions.
- Optimise receivables, payables, inventory funding and working capital while ensuring obligations are met when due.
- Compliance, Governance and Control
- Embed approved AML/CFT, sanctions, anti-fraud and trade-based money laundering controls into payment, receipt, treasury, accounting and master-data workflows.
- Confirm that required KYC, transaction and compliance approvals and verified bank-account details are in place before releasing funds, changing payment instructions or processing refunds.
- Identify and immediately escalate unusual third-party payments, mismatched account names or jurisdictions, split payments, unexplained overpayments or refunds, sanctions alerts and other financial red flags to Compliance.
- Do not override compliance alerts or approval conditions; support audits, investigations and information requests with accurate and timely records.
- Workflow, Systems and IT Projects
- Design, document, implement and maintain finance workflows, SOPs, checklists, approval matrices and close calendars covering accounting, payments, treasury, tax, trade accounting and management reporting.
- Actively lead or participate in system development and IT projects involving ERP, CTRM, treasury, banking, consolidation, reporting and document-management solutions.
- Define finance and control requirements, validate process design, support data cleansing and migration, perform user acceptance testing and oversee implementation, integration and system enhancements.
- Maintain appropriate user access, segregation of duties, change controls, data ownership and reconciliation between trading, logistics, banking and accounting systems.
- Leadership and Start-up Collaboration
- Build a disciplined, service-oriented finance function, supervise or develop team members and establish clear accountability for deliverables and controls.
- Partner with Trading, Trade Finance, Logistics, Compliance and management while maintaining the independence required to challenge inaccurate or unsupported transactions.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the superior from time to time, in support of the company's evolving business needs.
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
- At least 6 to 8 years of relevant finance and accounting experience, including substantial recent experience in a physical commodities trading firm and responsibility for the financial close.
- Recognised professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA or ACCA, or an equivalent degree with strong relevant professional experience.
- Strong knowledge of SFRS(I)/IFRS, Singapore corporate taxation and GST, with practical experience managing statutory reporting and audits.
- Sound understanding of commodity trading accounting, inventory, revenue recognition, foreign exchange, derivatives, hedge accounting and trade finance facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to create and implement finance workflows, policies and internal controls, and to lead or participate actively in systems and IT projects.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and practical experience with accounting or ERP systems; able to work independently and manage competing deadlines in a start-up environment.
KEY START-UP DELIVERABLES
- Establish an approved finance operating model covering close, reporting, payments, treasury, tax, controls, ownership and escalation routes.
- Implement a reliable month-end close calendar, management reporting pack, balance-sheet reconciliation framework and audit file structure.
- Set up cash-flow, facility-utilisation, exposure and working-capital reporting that gives management timely and accurate visibility.
- Define the finance systems roadmap and deliver finance requirements, control design, testing and implementation for priority IT projects.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience with CTRM-to-ERP integration, multi-currency and multi-entity environments, commodity inventory and derivative or hedge-accounting processes.
- Knowledge of Xero and/or a recognised ERP, treasury or consolidation platform, together with experience improving data and reporting automation.
- Experience establishing or strengthening a finance function in a start-up, new trading desk or rapidly growing organisation.
EDUCATION AND CORE COMPETENCIES
- Degree in Accountancy, Finance or a related discipline, together with the required professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
- Commercially aware, analytical and solutions-oriented, with high integrity, sound judgement and a strong control mindset.
- Confident communicator and people manager, able to explain financial issues clearly, challenge constructively and deliver under pressure.
Pay: $7,500.00 - $9,000.00 per month
