Role Overview:
We are seeking a Product Manager to lead the strategy, development, and scaling of three foundational product areas within the Data & AI portfolio:
- Unstructured Data Service
- Variable Latency Streaming
- Core AI Components
These capabilities form the backbone of next‑generation AI, and business intelligence across bp’s Supply, Trading & Shipping organisation.
The Product Manager will define product strategy, prioritise outcomes, and work closely with delivery leads, engineers, data scientists, other delivery teams, and business stakeholders to
deliver scalable, high-performing products. The role requires a blend of commercial knowledge, design thinking, and technical depth, with an ability to navigate emerging
AI technologies and complex data ecosystems.
What You Will Deliver
Product Thinking
- Define product strategy across the three capability areas, linking outcomes to ST&S organisational goals.
- Develop strong insight into user pain points and user journeys across Trading FO teams.
- Translate business needs into strategic product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
- Understand and articulate commercial value.
- Balance conflicting priorities across customer needs, enterprise strategy, and technical feasibility.
- Evaluate product performance using data-driven insights and metrics.
- Integrate user feedback loops, ensuring product decisions reflect real customer needs and workflows.
- Partner with delivery teams to ensure product experiences are intuitive.
Technology Delivery:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define scalable and re-usable architectures for ingestion, streaming, AI models, metadata, lexicons, and security services.
- Use iterative experiments, prototypes, and pilot deployments to validate hypotheses before scaling.
- Explore opportunities to reuse platform components and identify new capabilities that accelerate enterprise AI development.
Be Agile:
- Shape ways of working across cross-functional teams, improving delivery flow, communication, and shared accountability.
- Work with and influence a broad stakeholder landscape, including senior executives, technology leaders, and use case Technology delivery teams.
- Navigate complex organisational constraints to remove impediments and accelerate time‑to‑value.
Product Domains You Will Own
- 1. Unstructured Data Service.* The Product Manager will own the roadmap for ingesting, extracting, cataloguing, and curating unstructured data from sources such as email, chat, documents, and third-party content.
- 2. Variable Latency Streaming.* The Product Manager will provide capabilities for near-real-time data publishing from ETRM systems, enabling decoupled consumption.
- 3. Core AI Components.* The Product Manager will oversee foundational AI capabilities that enable enterprise-grade AI applications.
What You Will Need To Be Successful
Skills and Experience:
- Extensive experience in product management, ideally within data, AI/ML, analytics, or complex technical platforms.
- Proven stakeholder management experience, including engagement with senior business leaders.
- Strong understanding of Agile delivery and experience managing backlogs, roadmaps, and iterative releases.
- Familiarity with AI concepts such as LLMs, prompt engineering, metadata, lexicons, and responsible AI.
- Ability to work closely with engineering teams on architecture and platform decisions.
- Strong analytical capability, comfortable working with SQL, dashboards, and performance metrics.
Desirable:
- Experience with unstructured data processing, streaming architectures, and AI application development.
- Understanding of data governance, AI ethics, and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong domain knowledge in commodity trading.
