We are partnering with a leading international oil trading business to appoint a
Product Control Team Lead
based in
Hamburg, Germany
.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Product Control professional to take on a leadership role within a fast-paced trading environment. You'll lead a team responsible for delivering accurate daily P&L, valuation oversight, and robust financial controls while working closely with Trading, Risk, Finance, and senior leadership.
The Role
As Product Control Team Lead, you will:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Product Control team.
- Oversee daily P&L reporting and analysis across physical and derivative oil trading activities.
- Ensure accurate valuation of trading positions and support Independent Price Verification (IPV) processes.
- Challenge and explain P&L movements, ensuring transparency and control.
- Partner closely with Front Office, Risk, Operations, and Finance to resolve valuation and reporting issues.
- Drive process improvements, automation, and enhancements to the Product Control framework.
- Support month-end close, financial reporting, and audit requirements.
- Maintain a strong control environment while supporting commercial decision-making.
About You
We're looking for someone with:
- Significant experience in Product Control within oil, energy, or commodity trading.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring a Product Control team.
- Strong understanding of physical and derivative commodity trading.
- Excellent knowledge of daily P&L, valuation methodologies, and financial controls.
- Strong analytical skills and the confidence to challenge traders and senior stakeholders constructively.
- Experience working with trading systems and advanced Excel skills; SQL, Python, Power BI, or ETRM platforms
- Excellent communication skills and fluent English. German is beneficial but not essential.
