Job Description

We're looking for a Principal, Energy Consulting – Trading to join our team in London, United Kingdom, in a hybrid working mode. In this role, you will lead high-impact advisory projects for energy and commodity trading clients, positioning EPAM as a strategic partner for trading transformation. You will shape innovative strategies combining operating model improvements, risk governance, and data-driven solutions to help clients navigate new market realities and emerging AI opportunities. This is a senior client-facing position that blends deep trading domain expertise with the ability to drive business development and thought leadership in a competitive landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Lead advisory projects for trading clients including operating model design, ETRM/CTRM evaluation and implementation, and front-to-back process improvement
  • Guide clients on effective data and AI adoption, identifying credible use cases such as price forecasting, risk dashboards, and market data rationalization
  • Advise on systematic and algorithmic trading readiness, including strategy frameworks, execution infrastructure, backtesting practices, and model governance
  • Translate complex regulations (EMIR, REMIT II, MiFID II, NIS-2) into actionable transformation roadmaps
  • Build and maintain an active senior network within the energy and commodity trading ecosystem to originate new engagements
  • Represent EPAM at major energy and trading industry forums, positioning the firm as a thought leader in digital and AI-enabled transformation
  • Lead proposal development, RFP responses, and client pitches targeting energy trading mandates
  • Define and evolve EPAM’s advisory offering for energy trading, including differentiators, partnerships, and value propositions
  • Produce thought leadership content such as white papers and conference presentations showcasing EPAM’s AI-first identity
  • Grow and mentor a focused team of consultants to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients in the trading segment

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in or adjacent to energy and commodity trading, including risk, operations, or management consulting to trading clients
  • Deep knowledge of at least one commodity market such as Power & Gas, Oil & Refined Products, LNG, or Carbon/Environmental Markets
  • Working knowledge of ETRM/CTRM platforms (e.g., Endur, RightAngle, Allegro, Brady, ZEMA) sufficient to advise on evaluation and implementation
  • Strong understanding of commodity risk principles including VaR, mark-to-market, hedging practices, and regulatory reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate AI and data-driven use cases within trading environments, including forecasting models and real-time analytics
  • Experience engaging with data teams and quantitative specialists while maintaining technical credibility
  • Awareness of systematic and algorithmic trading principles, backtesting standards, and OMS/EMS infrastructure at an advisory level
  • Strong senior network (Head of Trading, Risk, CDO, CTO, or CFO) within IOCs, NOCs, utilities, trading houses, or commodity-focused banks
  • Proven track record in business development and proposal leadership at Director level
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills at C-level

Nice to have

  • Experience with major consulting firms (Big Four, MBB) or specialist energy advisory roles
  • Exposure to MLOps, model governance, or quantitative research frameworks
  • Professional certifications such as CFA or FRM
  • Prior experience across multiple geographies such as Continental Europe, North America, or the Middle East
