Power Trading Analyst – Portfolio Optimization

on behalf of an independent renewable energy producer active across Central and Eastern Europe. The role is based in Sofia, Bulgaria, and covers energy trading, forecasting, and portfolio optimization across the SEE and CEE markets. Main Purpose of the Job:

The Portfolio Expert supports the daily forecasting, scheduling, and trading processes for a diversified renewable energy portfolio, ensuring accurate submission of orders to day-ahead and intraday markets across the SEE and CEE regions. The role also covers monitoring of balancing markets, preparation of settlement reports, and ongoing analysis of market and regulatory developments to optimize the company's trading strategy.

Job Profile:

  • Monitor daily forecasting, scheduling, trading, and price data collection processes.
  • Monitor the receipt of metering data from SCADA systems in real time.
  • Support the implementation of renewable energy plants in trading software applications and ETRMs.
  • Propose measures to optimize trading processes.
  • Create and submit orders on SEE and CEE power exchanges' spot markets (day-ahead and intraday), based on updated production forecasts.
  • Monitor meteorological conditions at production sites and update production forecasts accordingly.
  • Create and submit trading and production delivery schedules to SEE and CEE transmission system operators.
  • Monitor balancing markets across SEE and CEE, including balancing prices, system imbalance, and regulation direction, to develop strategies for optimizing trading positions and imbalance costs.
  • Prepare monthly settlement reports and ad-hoc reports covering imbalances and balancing costs.
  • Monitor and analyze SEE and CEE markets to identify risks and opportunities for the company's commercial strategy.
  • Analyze forecast and actual market and power generation data.
  • Review O&M reports, including planned and unplanned outages and significant production changes.
  • Monitor market exposure and coordinate requests for increases in collateral amounts.
  • Monitor EU-level regulations and local legislative changes.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory and market reports to energy regulators and other authorities in the SEE and CEE regions.
  • Support the company's commercial activities and licensing processes.

Candidate Profile:

  • University degree in Engineering and/or Economics.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy markets is an advantage.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the energy sector and energy trading.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is an advantage.
  • Detail-oriented, with a structured and methodical approach to work.
