Operations Specialist (Fertilizers & Dry Bulk Commodities)

to support our fertilizer product category and ensure smooth, efficient, and profitable trade execution.

As an Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of physical trades, ensuring that shipments move from origin to destination smoothly, safely, and profitably. You will act as the key operational link between our traders, shipping partners, ports, and customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of physical trades from contract issuance to delivery and settlement.
  • Coordinate vessel nominations, voyage planning, and post-fixture operations to optimize efficiency and minimize costs.
  • Liaise with port agents, stevedores, and local authorities to ensure smooth loading and discharge of bulk fertilizers.
  • Calculate laytime, negotiate Statements of Facts (S.O.F.), and manage demurrage or dispatch claims.
  • Ensure quality control by coordinating surveys, hold inspections, and product sampling with independent inspection companies.
  • Prepare and review shipping and trade documentation, including Charter Party Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Certificates of Origin, and Letters of Credit.
  • Apply Incoterms (FOB, CFR, CIF) to determine risk transfer, cost allocation, and operational responsibilities.
  • Maintain awareness of the dry bulk freight market to advise traders on operational feasibility.
  • Ensure compliance with customs, safety, environmental, and industry-specific regulations for fertilizers.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Professional with deep knowledge of maritime logistics, vessel operations, and port management.
  • Strong understanding of dry bulk commodity handling, particularly fertilizers (Urea, DAP, MAP, MOP, NPK).
  • Ability to manage complex operational processes independently while collaborating with global teams.
  • Excellent crisis management and problem-solving skills to handle delays, port congestion, or operational disruptions.
  • Meticulous attention to documentation, laytime calculations, and contractual compliance.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, CTRM platforms, and advanced Excel for reporting and tracking.

Your Profile:

  • Minimum educational qualification: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in maritime, logistics, or commodity trading.
  • 5+ years of experience in dry bulk commodity operations, preferably in fertilizers or agri-commodities.
  • Experience working with international trading houses, shipowners, or major maritime agencies.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Already residing in the Netherlands and eligible to work here
  • Flexible with working hours and international travel.
