Job Description

We’re partnering with a global energy trading business that is investing heavily in its technology function and looking to hire a Lead ETRM Application Developer to help shape and modernise the platforms that support its commodities trading business.

This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced ETRM engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working closely with the business, and building technology that directly supports front-office trading teams.

This is a brand-new position and one of the business’ highest priority technology hires.

You’ll sit at the centre of the commodities trading lifecycle, working across applications and integrations that support everything from trade capture and exchange connectivity through to scheduling, risk, P&L and settlements.

Rather than being a purely support-focused ETRM role, this position is focused on engineering, modernisation and ownership, improving existing platforms, building new solutions and helping shape the future direction of the technology landscape.

You’ll work closely with:

  • Trading teams
  • Risk
  • Operations
  • Technology stakeholders

What you'll be doing

  • Design, develop and enhance applications supporting the full commodities trading lifecycle.
  • Build and improve integrations between ETRM platforms and surrounding trading systems.
  • Develop robust data flows including mapping, transformations, validations and exception handling.
  • Work closely with front-office users to understand challenges and deliver technology solutions.
  • Improve platform resiliency through monitoring, automation, controls and operational improvements.
  • Contribute to architecture and technical design decisions.
  • Drive strong engineering practices around testing, CI/CD and release processes.
  • Support and mentor developers, including coordinating delivery with offshore teams.
  • Own production issues, root-cause analysis and long-term fixes.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Strong experience developing and supporting enterprise ETRM/CTRM platforms.
  • Experience working within a commodity trading environment.
  • Hands-on software engineering experience (not purely configuration/support).
  • Experience with platforms such as:
  • TriplePoint CommodityXL
  • Endur / Openlink
  • Allegro
  • RightAngle
  • Similar enterprise ETRM systems

Strong technical experience with some of the following:

  • Java / J2EE
  • Python
  • Spring Framework
  • SQL / Oracle / PL-SQL
  • Kafka or messaging technologies
  • REST APIs
  • Cloud technologies (AWS/Azure)

This is a rare opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond maintaining ETRM systems and take ownership of improving and evolving them.
