About the Role
bp is seeking a Trading Business Analyst (BA) to support its GECO (Global Environmental Credits Operations) platform. GECO is a strategic system that manages regulatory environmental credits such as RINs (Renewable Identification Numbers) under the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program and Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) credits across global markets (US, Europe, and Asia).
The platform acts as a reconciliation and integration layer between ETRM systems (SAP, Endur) and government registry systems, ensuring accurate tracking, compliance, and reporting of environmental credits.
This role will combine Business Analysis responsibilities with Agile/Scrum coordination for a small, globally distributed team.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis
Collaborate with trading, compliance, and operations stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements.
Translate requirements into functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
Perform gap analysis between ETRM systems (SAP, Endur) and GECO platform processes.
Support environmental credit lifecycle processes, including:
o
RIN generation, transfer, and retirement
o
LCFS credit tracking and reconciliation
Work closely with developers to ensure accurate implementation of requirements.
Participate in system testing (SIT/UAT) and ensure quality deliverables.
Support data reconciliation and exception management workflows across global registries.
Agile / Scrum Responsibilities
Act as a Scrum facilitator for a small team (2 developers/support resources based in India).
Manage and drive all Agile ceremonies, including:
o
Sprint Planning
o
Daily Stand-ups
o
Sprint Reviews
o
Retrospectives
Maintain and prioritize the product backlog in alignment with business needs.
Track progress through tools like JIRA/Azure DevOps.
Ensure effective communication across time zones (US–India coordination).
Stakeholder Management
Serve as a bridge between business stakeholders, IT teams, and external systems.
Coordinate with trading desks, compliance teams, and regulatory stakeholders.
Provide status updates, reporting, and insights to stakeholders.
Support change management and release planning.
Required Skills & Experience
Domain Expertise
Strong understanding of Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) systems (SAP, Endur preferred).
Knowledge of environmental commodities / credits, such as:
o
RINs (Renewable Fuel Standard – US)
o
LCFS credits (California, EU, Asia markets)
Exposure to regulatory compliance and reporting systems is a plus.
Business Analysis Skills
Experience in requirements gathering, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.
Proficiency in creating:
o
User stories
o
Process flows (BPMN/UML)
o
Functional specifications
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Agile & Tools
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Hands-on experience with:
o
JIRA / Azure DevOps
o
Confluence or similar tools
Ability to act as a Scrum Master/BA hybrid role.
Technical Understanding
Familiarity with system integrations, APIs, and data reconciliation processes.
Basic understanding of SQL/data analysis is a plus.
Experience working with financial/trading systems integrations.
Soft Skills
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to work independently in a small team setup.
Experience working with global teams across time zones.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable.
Nice to Have
Exposure to carbon markets / sustainability reporting frameworks.
Experience with government registry systems for environmental credits.
Scrum Master certification (CSM/PSM) is a plus.
