Energy Trading Business Analyst - Front Office - Up to £115,000 + Bonus - Hybrid, London
Business Analyst, specialising in Front Office Energy Trading and specifically working on trading workflow optimisation, front office process improvement, and ETRM implementation projects, is needed for a commodities & energy trading firm, focused on supporting the growth of a new desk within the energy trading sector. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working directly with traders across power, gas, LNG, oil, environmental products, or broader energy markets, with a strong understanding of both physical and derivative trading activities. With their continued growth in the energy trading space and implementation of a new ETRM system, they are looking to scale up the company.
As a Front Office Energy Trading Business Analyst, you'll work closely with front-office traders to support and optimise trade flows across multiple energy desks. You'll help map and improve end-to-end trading workflows, capture front-office requirements, and collaborate with stakeholders across the business to ensure efficient, scalable trading operations and technology solutions.

Key responsibilities:
- Work closely with energy traders and front-office stakeholders to understand, document, and optimise end-to-end trading workflows across physical and derivative energy products.
- Support the build-out and scaling of newly expanding energy trading desks, ensuring processes, systems, and controls can support increased trading volumes and new products.
- Act as a key interface between front office, risk, operations, settlements, finance, and technology teams to ensure trading requirements are accurately captured and delivered.
- Analyse and improve trading workflows across the full trade lifecycle, from deal capture, scheduling and nominations through to risk management, settlement, and reporting.
- Gather, challenge, and document business requirements directly from traders, translating them into clear functional specifications for technology teams.
- Support the implementation and enhancement of a new ETRM platform, ensuring front-office processes and trading strategies are fully supported by the technology stack.
- Work with trading, quantitative, and risk teams to improve pricing, position management, P&L reporting, and trade visibility across the business.
- Participate in testing activities including UAT, business validation, and release support for new functionality and system enhancements.
- Work within an Agile delivery environment, contributing to backlog refinement, prioritisation, sprint planning, and iterative delivery of front-office focused solutions.
- Support the onboarding of new products, exchanges, brokers, and trading venues as the business continues to expand its energy trading capabilities.
What we're looking for:
- Front Office Energy Trading experience - Proven experience working directly with traders on an energy desk (power, gas, LNG, oil, or related commodities), supporting both physical and derivative trading activities.
- Energy desk domain knowledge - Strong understanding of front-office trading workflows, trade capture, position management, pricing, P&L, scheduling/nominations, confirmations, settlement and the wider trade lifecycle.
- Business analysis delivery - Skilled in requirements gathering, workshop facilitation, process mapping, gap analysis, user stories, functional specifications and stakeholder management across Front Office, Risk, Operations, Finance and Technology.
- Trade flow optimisation - Demonstrable experience analysing and improving end-to-end trading workflows to increase efficiency, control and scalability across the desk.
