The Opportunity

Director, CA Power and Gas Commercial Marketing leads TC Energy’s commercial strategy across Alberta’s dynamic power and environmental markets. This role sits at the center of market intelligence, portfolio optimization, and commercial decision‑making, guiding the organization’s efforts to capture value, manage risk, and navigate evolving regulatory frameworks.

The position is responsible for shaping market strategy, supporting trading execution, driving growth initiatives, and collaborating across trading, analytics, and customer‑facing teams to advance TC Energy’s competitive position.

What you’ll do

Market Strategy & Analysis

  • Lead assessment of Alberta power market fundamentals, price drivers, and regulatory developments to inform commercial strategies.
  • Produce market insights, forecasts, and commercial analyses that support trading and business planning decisions.

Portfolio & Risk Management

  • Oversee portfolio positions in power and environmental products, ensuring accurate reporting and alignment with compliance obligations, including TIER markets and renewable energy credit transactions.
  • Identify optimization opportunities and work with commercial teams to enhance value and manage exposure.

Commercial Execution Support

  • Support execution of transactions in power, emissions, and REC markets.
  • Collaborate with traders to price electricity for end‑use customers and structure competitive offerings.

Business Development & Growth

  • Develop growth strategies across retail and hedging products, leveraging analytics and market intelligence.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, counterparties, and internal stakeholders.

Leadership & Team Oversight

  • Lead and develop high‑performing teams across analytics, trading, scheduling, and commercial support, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide direction to analysts, schedulers, traders, and cross‑functional partners within CA Power Marketing.
  • Ensure operational continuity, including coverage across trading and scheduling teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, Economics, or a related quantitative or commercial discipline.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in power marketing, emissions trading, commercial energy markets, or related areas, with a strong track record of decision‑making and commercial impact.
  • Demonstrated experience leading high‑performing teams, including traders, analysts, or commercial support functions, with the ability to inspire, coach, and develop talent at multiple levels.
  • Deep knowledge of Alberta power market fundamentals, environmental compliance programs (e.g., TIER), renewable energy credit markets, and overall market structures.
  • Advanced analytical and quantitative capability, including expert-level Excel and working familiarity with Python or other analytics tools.
  • Proven ability to operate under tight deadlines, manage multiple competing priorities, and drive strategic outcomes in fast‑changing market environments.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with demonstrated success partnering across trading, analytics, commercial, and cross‑functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ETRM systems, advanced analytics platforms, or market modeling tools.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Finance, Engineering, Economics, or a related field).
  • Experience representing a commercial portfolio in executive‑level discussions, strategy development, or regulatory/market stakeholder forums
