Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC) is a Crown agent established under the Petroleum Marketing Act to enhance the value of Alberta’s petroleum resources. The Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC) is seeking a skilled Crude Oil Scheduler to support the efficient and timely movement of the Crown’s crude oil across Western Canada’s pipeline network. This role is integral to the coordination of logistics, execution of trading strategies, and alignment between producers, pipeline and terminal operators, and internal stakeholders. A proven background in crude oil scheduling with a minimum of 5 years direct experience is an essential requirement for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end scheduling for the Crown’s crude oil from multiple receipt points to feeder pipelines while adhering to all industry deadlines
  • Proactively resolve scheduling issues and manage apportionments
  • Collaborate closely with producers to validate and refine crude oil volume forecasts, addressing discrepancies and production changes
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with producers, shippers, refiners, midstream operators, and pipeline companies
  • Work closely with the Senior Marketing Specialist to support field-level optimization and logistics coordination
  • Develop and distribute detailed supply and demand reports, position updates to support trading decisions
  • Contribute to trading strategies by leveraging a strong understanding of Western Canadian pipeline systems and market dynamics
  • Work with the marketing accounting team to resolve issues impacting settlement
  • Participate in the Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system project, including system selection and implementation
  • Utilize and maintain scheduling platforms such as Petrotranz, OM2, Swiftlink, QuickConnect, and related systems
  • Provide coverage and support to scheduling team members during peak periods or absences
  • Represent APMC on industry committees (e.g., COLC, Equalization) and at relevant industry events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in crude oil scheduling
  • Strong knowledge of Western Canada’s crude oil gathering systems, trading hubs, and major export pipelines
  • Experience with industry scheduling and pipeline management systems (e.g., Petrotranz, OM2, Swiftlink, QuickConnect)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to support commercial decision-making
  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment
  • High attention to detail with strong prioritization and multitasking capabilities
  • Demonstrated accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to perform under pressure
