We are seeking a highly technical Business Systems Analyst to serve as the critical bridge between Middle Office stakeholders, IT, and system vendors. In this role, the candidate will translate complex risk reporting and business requirements into precise technical designs, ensuring that all data, calculations, and reports within our Middle Office systems are accurate, automated, and robustly controlled. The ideal candidate will be assigned to our Middle Office team and must possess strong exposure to the commodity trading environment (oil, gas, LNG, etc.) and demonstrates proven experience with ETRM/CTRM platforms such as SAP Commodity Management, Endur, Allegro, or RightAngle.
They will be responsible for end-to-end solution design—from gathering requirements to implementing technical specifications—while leveraging strong SQL, Python, and Power BI skills to engineer data models, automate daily risk reporting, and resolve data integrity issues. This role requires a proactive problem-solver who can drive data governance, strengthen internal controls, and manage the full lifecycle of system enhancements, ensuring seamless integration and timely delivery of critical risk analytics.

Role Purpose
Act as the bridge between Middle Office, IT, and system vendors by translating business and risk reporting requirements into clear technical designs and specifications, and ensuring the data, calculations, and reports produced by Middle Office systems are accurate, automated, and controlled. The ideal candidate is a strong technical analyst with exposure to the risk domain.
Key Responsibilities
- Business analysis and solution design*
- Gather business requirements from the Risk Department, and translate them into functional and technical specifications, data models, and process flows.
- Design, document, and implement solutions for reporting, analytics, and system enhancements, working with IT and vendors from concept through delivery.
- Prepare test cases, coordinate user acceptance testing, validate system changes, and ensure documentation and sign-off before implementation.
- Data engineering and reporting automation*
- Develop and maintain data models supporting exposure reporting, P&L analysis, and management dashboards, including relational structures, reference data, and reporting data repositories.
- Use SQL, Python, Power BI or similar tools to query, transform, reconcile, and validate trading, pricing, exposure, limit utilization, other-related risk data, and to automate daily reporting processes.
- Identify and deliver opportunities to reduce manual adjustments, strengthen controls, and improve the reliability and timeliness of Risk reporting.
- Systems and data integrity*
- Investigate system and data issues across trade capture, pricing formulas, valuation logic, curve setup, missing fixings, and mapping errors, identifying root cause and driving resolution with IT and vendors.
- Support data governance and control processes covering trades, prices, curves, counterparties, trade books, shipping, nominations, and valuation parameters.
Desired Experience And Skills
- Proven experience as a Business Systems Analyst, Business Analyst, or Data Analyst delivering system and reporting solutions in a trading, banking, energy, or similarly data-intensive environment.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical designs: functional specifications, data models, process flows, and test scripts, and to see them through to implementation.
- Strong practical SQL, Power BI, Python or similar skills for querying, joining, transforming, and validating large datasets.
- Familiarity with control frameworks, audit requirements, change management, and production support.
- Solid understanding of data modeling concepts: relational structures, reference vs. transactional data, dimensional models, and reporting data marts.
- Experience with APIs, data pipelines, data warehouses, or cloud platforms is a plus.
- Strong investigative and problem-solving skills: able to trace reporting discrepancies through data, calculation logic, and system configuration to root cause.
- Strong communication skills, able to explain technical issues to business users and business intent to technical teams.
- Ability to work under time pressure supporting critical daily reporting processes.
- Knowledge of commodity pricing structures: fixed and floating price, index-linked and average pricing, pricing periods, swaps, futures, options, and physical cargo pricing.
- Exposure to Middle Office, Market Risk, or Product Control processes in a commodity trading environment (oil, gas, LNG, LPG, refined products, crude, or chemicals).
Experience with ETRM/CTRM platforms: SAP Commodity Management, Endur, Allegro, RightAngle, or similar systems.
