A leading renewable energy company is seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President, Settlements Accounting to lead its back-office settlements and revenue accounting team. This individual will oversee highly complex market settlements, transmission settlements, and contract billing activities across multiple North American power markets and ISOs/RTOs.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone with deep expertise in power market settlements, renewable energy commercial structures, transmission accounting, and ISO/RTO market operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team responsible for power market settlements, transmission settlements, and revenue accounting activities across multiple US and Canadian ISOs/RTOs, with significant exposure to CAISO.
- Oversee settlement and reconciliation processes related to energy, transmission, renewable energy credits (RECs), resource adequacy/capacity products, and other energy-related transactions.
- Manage the end-to-end settlement-to-billing lifecycle for complex commercial power agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and related contractual arrangements.
- Partner cross-functionally with trading, origination, asset management, commercial, and accounting teams to support market participation strategies and optimize settlement processes.
- Lead transmission settlement activities, including shadow settlement validation, invoice reconciliation, intercompany settlements, and true-up processes.
- Drive operational improvements, internal controls, automation initiatives, and systems enhancements across the settlements organization.
- Support implementation and optimization of ETRM and settlements platforms, including Allegro and Bid-to-Bill capabilities.
- Serve as a key point of contact with ISOs/RTOs, transmission operators, counterparties, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; CPA and/or advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of experience within power market settlements, energy accounting, transmission settlements, or commercial operations in the utility, renewable energy, or power trading sectors.
- 6-8+ years of leadership experience managing settlements and/or revenue accounting teams.
- Strong understanding of ISO/RTO market structures and settlement processes, particularly CAISO; experience with ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, AESO, or IESO also valued.
- Deep knowledge of complex power contracts, including PPAs, transmission agreements, RECs, and capacity/resource adequacy products.
- Prior experience with Allegro, PowerOptix, or related ETRM / settlements platforms strongly preferred.
