Founded in 1990, LS Power is a premier development, investment, and operating company focused on the North American power and energy infrastructure sector, with leading platforms across generation, transmission and energy expansion solutions. Since inception, LS Power has developed or acquired 50,000 MW of power generation, including utility-scale solar, wind, hydro, battery energy storage, and natural gas-fired facilities. Through its transmission business, LS Power Grid, the company built and operates 780+ miles of high-voltage transmission and 7 transmission utilities and has another 375+ miles currently in construction or development. LS Power actively invests in and scales businesses that are meeting the growing needs of the energy expansion, including electric vehicle charging, demand response, microgrids, renewable fuels and waste-to-energy platforms. Compensation

The salary for this role is $120,000-$140,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York. This salary range may also be modified in the future.

About the Role:

This position is responsible for building, maintaining, and deploying the internal web applications used by our energy marketing and trading team. You will work across a portfolio of tools that support trading workflows, deal capture, settlements, reporting, and analytical decision-making. Many of these are lightweight, purpose-built applications, and your job is to keep them running, improve them, and build new ones as the business requires.

More than anything, we are looking for someone who understands the business these tools serve. The right candidate has real familiarity with financial and commodity markets — ideally energy, but at minimum with derivatives, options, and futures — and can translate that understanding into applications that actually help people do their jobs. We are not looking for someone who wants to build with the latest JavaScript frameworks or who optimizes for technical novelty.

Responsibilities:

What you will do:

  • Build and maintain internal web applications that serve the trading, risk, and analytics teams, primarily using HTML, JavaScript, and Python with SQL backends.
  • Manage the deployment and hosting of a growing number of web applications, including organizing how they are versioned, served, and discovered by end users.
  • Work directly with traders, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into functional software — often with fast turnaround.
  • Integrate front-end applications with backend data sources including Microsoft Fabric lakehouses, SQL Server databases, and Graphql.
  • Ensure that internal tools are reliable, well-documented, and easy for non-technical users to navigate.
  • Contribute to the team’s approach for organizing, deploying, and maintaining a large and growing catalog of internal applications.

Qualifications:

We want you on our team because you…

  • Have 5+ years of experience building software, with a meaningful portion of that time spent creating tools for business users in a financial, trading, or markets environment.
  • Are familiar with financial products and commodity markets — you understand what a swap is, what an options book looks like, what a spark spread means, or why settlement data matters.
  • Write clean, readable HTML, CSS, and JavaScript without relying on heavy frameworks — you can build a useful, good-looking internal tool with vanilla web technologies.
  • Are comfortable with Python for backend logic, API integration, and light data processing.
  • Work well with SQL and can write queries that serve front-end applications reliably.
  • Take ownership of your work.
  • Are a clear communicator who can work with non-technical stakeholders and earn their trust by shipping things that work.
  • Have a heavy bias to get to the end state through planning and action. Actions like performing the migration/refactor and dropping dead code and dead datasets.

Ideally, you have

  • Direct experience in energy marketing and trading, power markets, or natural gas markets.
  • Familiarity with trade capture systems, ETRM platforms, or the operational workflows around deal entry, confirmation, and settlement.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, or other Microsoft data platform tools from the consumer side.
  • A track record of having built a large number of applications or tools — we are looking for prolific, fast builders who have repeatedly gone from idea to working product, not someone whose experience is limited to maintaining a single large codebase.
  • Active use of AI-assisted development tools and a considered view of how to use them effectively in a production workflow.
  • Personal experience with language model hosting, multi-agent systems, or other technically ambitious AI projects outside of work.
  • A strong preference for simplicity and maintainability in everything you build — you instinctively resist unnecessary abstraction, over-engineering, and complexity for its own sake.
