Reporting to the Manager, FP&A, the Advisor, FP& A for the Singapore Commercial organization will support trading and commercial leadership in a fast-paced, multi-product environment. You will help connect commercial activity to financial outcomes by preparing and maintaining desk-level forecasts, monitoring earnings and controllable costs, and ensuring that MTM and GAAP results are accurately captured and clearly explained. You will work closely with senior advisors and the Manager, FP&A to translate data into clear, concise analysis that supports performance, capital allocation and risk-reward discussions for the desks you support.
An ideal candidate for this role is developing depth in commercial finance or trading finance, is curious about how markets and commercial decisions drive financial performance and enjoys turning data into structured insights and recommendations for business partners.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and maintain monthly earnings forecasts for the desks you support, ensuring alignment with commercial assumptions and current market conditions.
- Monitor and report actuals vs budget and forecast at a desk level, highlighting key drivers and variances for both margin and controllable costs, with guidance from senior team members as needed.
- Support the central planning CoE and global FP&A by providing accurate and timely Singapore Commercial inputs and insights into corporate views.
- Assist in preparing and enhancing monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date performance reports, including Income Before Tax (IBT) and other key performance indicators for assigned desks.
- Analyze actuals vs budget/forecast, documenting commercial drivers, risks, and opportunities, and escalating key issues to the Manager, FP&A or senior advisors.
- Help bridge trading P&L (MTM) results to GAAP and segment reporting, coordinating with Accounting, Risk, and other stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and timing differences.
- Serve as a day-to-day finance contact for Commercial and Trading desks, providing analysis on earnings drivers, deal economics, and portfolio performance under the guidance of the Manager, FP&A.
- Contribute financial analysis to new deals, growth initiatives, and origination opportunities, including building and maintaining models, running sensitivities, and consolidating assumptions from cross-functional partners.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Risk, Credit, Contracts, Trade Support, IT) to support end-to-end deal flows and commercial processes and ensure financial impacts are correctly reflected in systems and reporting.
- Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT) for SAP upgrades, ETRM enhancements, and other system changes, validating key financial data fields and standard reporting.
- Support robust financial governance and risk management controls, including adherence to corporate policies, SOX, and local regulatory requirements.
- Help identify and implement process improvements, digital tools, and dashboards that simplify recurring reporting, improve data quality, and enhance transparency for commercial stakeholders.
- Prepare clear, well-structured analysis and presentations for Singapore leadership and global stakeholders, focusing on key messages and commercial implications.
- Proactively monitor and summarize key trends and performance insights for the desks you support, ensuring that the Manager, FP&A and senior advisors are informed of emerging risks and opportunities.
What You’ll Bring – Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
- Relevant experience (typically 3–5+ years) in FP&A, commercial finance, trading finance, or comparable analytical roles.
- Strong financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting skills, with the ability to work effectively with large data sets and develop robust templates.
- Experience with management reporting and variance analysis, including explaining results to non-finance stakeholders with support from senior team members.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize work across multiple desks and competing deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- High level of attention to detail, with a proven track record of producing accurate, high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with business intelligence / visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is an advantage.
- Effective team player, able to collaborate across functions and contribute to a positive team culture.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in English, with an ability to organize information logically and succinctly.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-changing environment.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Professional qualification such as CPA, CA, CFA, or equivalent (completed or in progress).
- Experience in commodity trading, energy, oil & gas, renewables, or other capital-intensive industries.
- Familiarity with MTM accounting, derivatives, and risk concepts, and exposure to bridging trading results to GAAP/segment reporting.
- Experience with SAP, trading and risk systems (e.g., RightAngle or similar), and data visualization tools.
- Demonstrated involvement in designing and implementing process improvements, automation, and dashboarding for management reporting.
- Developed stakeholder management skills, with some experience presenting analysis and supporting cross-functional discussions.
